Ani Difranco

Angela Maria Ani DiFranco (born Angela Maria Ani DiFranco) is an American as well as a Canadian singer-songwriter. She's released over 20 albums. Her music is classified as folk rock and alternative rock although it also has elements of punk, funk, hip music and jazz. Ani DiFranco is widely recognized as an icon of women's rights, and Grammy award-winning musician is thought to be the pioneer of DIY music. She was among the first musicians to start the label she created in the year 90. DiFranco was born on September 23, 1970 in the city of Buffalo in New York. She is the daughter of Elizabeth (Ross), who was introduced to Dante Americo DiFranco while studying at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her father is of Italian origin, while her mother is from Montreal. Ani's song, 32 Flavors was composed by her, and performed by Ani. The song is featured on her album Not a Pretty Girl released in 1995. A version of the song can be heard in the 1999 Canadian romantic movie Better Than Chocolate. DiFranco apologized for holding a conference in Louisiana in an old slave plantation. It was postponed however, certain (including the newspaper) didn't consider it a gesture of regret. DiFranco apologized again a few days later. Her name is associated with her Little Folksinger style, but she's collaborated with many different genres and artists including Pete Seeger to Chuck D. New Orleans is her home. Ani DiFranco is married to Kristen Ford. In the span of 14 months, DiFranco was already writing her own songs. They continued to be performed in bars and coffee shops in her teens. DiFranco began taking courses in Buffalo State College at age 16 following her graduation from Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts.
