She has covered sports in many of the top publications around the world. The journalist spent more than a decade covering sports for The Washington Post, including tennis, football and basketball. In 2004, Nichols transferred to ESPN for a nine-year run where she won two Emmy Awards and appeared on many of the network's most watched programs, like SportsCenter as well as NFL Countdown. Additionally, she worked as a correspondent for Monday Night Football on the network. The next step was to CNN after which she joined Turner Sports. The first show she created and hosted was self-titled, Unguarded featuring Rachel Nichols, and aired weekly on CNN as well as CNN International. More than 1 billion people were watching it around the world. Nichols was a reporter for NBA television broadcasts for TNT, including the regular season, playoffs as well as All-Star broadcasts. Her work for TBS covered golf and baseball coverage as well as Final Four broadcasts by CBS. Through the history of 42 years of this award, it was the first time that a woman had been in the list of 200+ nominees.
